As relative newcomer VinFast struggles in the US and European markets and shifts its focus to India, Indonesia, and the Philippines, you’d think their leadership would be focused on this significant pivot to try and stabilize the ship. Instead, they have also announced an expansion of their “ultra luxury” Lac Hong brand, initially launched last year with an armored variant of the VF9 three-row SUV.

There are few specifics available on the 900S SUV and 800S sedan (due in 2027), but they appear to share the same platform and mechanicals (including a 460kW trimotor powertrain, power-assisted doors, and active suspension), as well as Vietnamese-inspired design cues.

The vehicles appear attractive, if somewhat generic, with fairly conventional interior and exterior designs. Price and performance remain unknown, swe’ll have to wait and see if these are going after Mercedes and BMW, or further up the food chain into Bentley and Rolls-Royce territory. It’s also unknown whether VinFast was able to poach some experienced automotive luxury talent to help get this brand off the ground.

It seems like VinFast might want to get their core business right before an expansion like this, but we’ll just have to wait for additional details.
