Has GM Backed Off a Plan For Affordable EVs?

If you're looking for a family of Bolt-like affordable EVs from General Motors, you may be waiting a while...

It's about that time of year when Automotive News publishes its forward assumptions about what automaker are planning for the next few years. This particular quote is noteworthy:

"GM’s plans to launch new EVs this decade largely have been pushed back or canceled. A commercial van codeveloped with Hyundai is now the only new EV expected to be released by GM through 2030. But it will make some updates to current electric models, including a redesigned Equinox EV around 2028."

Last fall, GM President Mark Reuss mentioned plans for a family of low-cost EVs targeting a $30,000 price point. With the Bolt EV out of production by the end of next year (if not sooner)--and assuming Automotive News has good sources--it's not clear if those plans have been cancelled or merely delayed. GM held an Investor Day last September, so perhaps a similar event this fall may provide some clarity.
