Stellantis Pro One Goes Driverless
Their new commercial concept does exactly what it says on the tin
Stellantis’ Pro One commercial vehicle business unit says, “It is a box, it has wheels.” It, of course, is... the Box On Wheels, or simply “BOW.” (yes, oddly, with a period after the name). Developed with UQI Robotics, it is intended to be a fully autonomous electric delivery van for urban and controlled-environment operations.
There are no technical specifications, nor are there photos of the interior--which, of course would be a bit pointless, as there’s no driver’s seat or dashboard to worry about. We’ve seen a few vehicles along the same lines in the past, but I believe this is the first we’ve seen from a big name in commercial vehicles. With Stellantis offering a full range of commercial vans in Europe--and adding a new entry level Ram in North America--it’s clear they see the revenue potential that Ford is also realizing. What they decide to do with this particular idea remains an unanswered question, but certainly a thought-provoking one.
