Nissan’s New Affordable EV Has French Roots

The original Pixo was a rebadged Suzuki Alto for Europe--but now it's Renault-based. And while the new Renault Twingo E-Tech leveraged the original's iconic design, and Dacia went for a chunkier look with the new Spring, Nissan went down a lower-investment path with their new entry-level electric hatch.

While the Dacia got its own look inside and out, the Renault roots of the new Pixo are more apparent here. Greenhouse and doors carry over from the Twingo, while the Pixo gets new front end sheetmetal with a more upright front end. Out back are unique taillamps, fascia, and tailgate. Lights and wheels both get a "pixel-inspired" look.

Inside and underneath will look even familiar. The powertrain is identical to the Twingo, although DC fast charging drops from 80kW to a less competitive 50kW. The interior features screens and controls carried over from Renault, with some unique surfacing on the dashboard and (like the Twingo) some splashes of color.

With the VW ID.Up, Citroen 2CV, and new Fiat Panda en route (not to mention the Chinese), Nissan dealers are likely welcoming this new affordable (and competitive) EV into their showrooms.
